Katrineholm Rollator Rally puts mobility, joy and participation in focus

On August 6, Katrineholm’s first Rollator Rally was held at Stora torget during Katrineholmsveckan. Human Care took part as the main sponsor, contributing both financially and with prizes, medals and accessories for the participants.

The initiative came from Ella Hällnäs and Erik Ottosson, who were inspired by a Rollator Rally previously held in Lycksele. The concept was brought to Katrineholm with the ambition of creating an activity that puts older people in focus and associates rollators with movement, community and opportunity rather than limitations.

Hundreds of visitors gathered in the square to watch the ten participants compete. The competition format was simple and inclusive. Participants completed a marked course twice, with a break between the two rounds. The aim was not to be the fastest. Instead, the winner was the participant who completed the two rounds in the most similar time. This meant that everyone could compete on their own terms, regardless of walking speed.

A mobility aid that creates opportunities
For many people, a rollator is an important tool for maintaining an active and independent life. It can provide the confidence and stability needed to go for a walk, meet friends, go shopping or simply continue to move around and participate in society. At the same time, mobility aids are still sometimes associated with limitations or a loss of independence. Initiatives such as the Rollator Rally can help change that perception. Here, the rollator instead became a natural part of an activity characterised by competitive spirit, humour and a strong sense of community.

Human Care contributed prizes and equipment
As the main sponsor, Human Care contributed financially to the event and also sponsored the medals for the participants.
The winner received a new rollator from Human Care. Participants were also given the opportunity to receive different accessories, including trays, baskets, bags, reflector kits and locks, allowing them to adapt their rollators to their own needs. For Human Care, supporting this type of local initiative is part of a broader commitment to participation, independence and a more inclusive society. The Katrineholm Rollator Rally demonstrated in a simple and positive way that a mobility aid does not have to stand in the way of an active life. On the contrary, it can be what makes activity and independence possible.
